IN-BOARD was established in 2008. Several almuni developed the idea of developing a board program for alumni by alumni. First focus was developing the knowledge and skills of alumni in order to be better board members, whereby they, with their knowledge, experience and in the INSEAD spirit can give something back to society. The program was developed by Matthieu van den Broek and Peter Idenburg in close cooperation with INSEAD faculty Erik van de loo and Ludo van der Heijden.

This program proved to be very successful and was rolled out over other countries: Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, The Nordic countries, the UK and France.

In 2019 alumni of the IN-BOARD program were organising events together with the alumni of the INSEAD Directors Program. Both groups have a a great interest in corporate governance, sharing knowledge and building one community. So both communities were merged.
